Dear 海棠直播 USD Families,
We hope that as you read this, you and your family continue to be healthy and safe.
Over the weekend, many cities nationwide, including some in California, gathered to peacefully protest, however, some of those demonstrations turned unruly. In the midst of dealing with the stress and anxiety caused by a global pandemic, these recent events are bringing other emotions to the forefront. Racism, prejudice, and social injustice continue to be dominating experiences in our society for black men and women and other people of color. It is our responsibility as educators to help create a more inclusive society and encourage our students to work toward building a more just world.
Our teachers, administrators, and staff know that it is important to provide our students with safe spaces to talk about issues of race and equity. We realize that students may have feelings of grief, anger, and confusion regarding the civil unrest this past weekend. Though we cannot meet our students face to face, our school counselors, teachers, and administrators are just a Zoom link away. If any student needs support during this time or just wants someone to talk to, please reach out to any of your student's teachers, counselors, or principal.
We are so proud that our campuses, from elementary through high school, have always been places where we celebrate our diversity and create inclusive environments. We miss our students and families every day, especially as we navigate these challenging times when we cannot physically be together.

Together, as we reflect on the events of the past few days, I know our community will find ways to have constructive conversations about social injustices that will help us move forward toward a better tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Dr. Geroge Mannon
