Our School

PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER

August 2024

Dear Saxon Parents and Students,

We are extremely excited to kick off the 2024-2025 school year and proud to share that North High School was voted “DAILY BREEZE’S 2024 BEST HIGH SCHOOL in the SOUTH BAY!” It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the Saxon community and partner with you in nurturing our Saxons to become our future leaders in society!

Here at Saxon Nation, we offer an abundance of opportunities through our Early College Program, Dual Enrollment course offerings, AP/Honors Program, Career Technical Education Pathways, Athletics, Visual and Performing Arts, Clubs, JROTC program and Associated Student Body. This past summer we had roughly 300 signups for dual enrollment courses: Administration of Justice, Business, Economics, English, Government, History, Kinesiology, Spanish, and Sports Therapy. And this school year we are proud to be adding Drawing, Entomology, Marine Science and Film Studies into our dual enrollment course offerings in partnership with El Camino College. We are also very fortunate to have our amazing guidance counselors, college and career coordinator and mental health therapists.

Our passionate and dedicated teachers have spent their summer months teaching Summer Boot Camps, accelerated and credit recovery courses, participating in professional development opportunities and professional learning communities to refine best instructional practices all in preparation for your children. At North, we continue to provide engaging and rigorous classes for all of our students and support them as they successfully navigate through high school and prepare for college and/or future careers.

Research shows that there is a direct positive correlation between parental involvement and student achievement! Our school wouldn’t be the same without the generosity and active support of our parents and community organizations. I invite you to take an active leadership role in the PTA, Booster Clubs, School Site Council, Advisory Committees and make a difference! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you’re interested! And lastly, I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s development by working with your student at home – encouraging academic excellence and responsibility.

Parents, please monitor your student’s academics, attendance, and behavior regularly throughout the school year via PowerSchool. If your child begins to struggle in a class, they should immediately communicate with their teacher. Please work with your child to ensure that your student dedicates the time and effort necessary to be successful. Remind your child to take advantage of Saxon time, an additional 30 minute period built into the daily schedule on Wednesdays and Thursdays in which students can visit one of their teachers to get additional help and assistance. We also have free tutoring after school available in the library throughout the school year, more details to come on when this kicks off. Additionally, an email to teachers asking for clarification or suggestions can be helpful.

This letter includes important dates and schedules that you should be aware of for the start of the school year, including Fall Registration later this month. Please keep in mind the Fall Registration process is a two-part process. The information is detailed below and all registration paperwork needs to be completed before students can come pick up their class schedule and textbooks.

The first day of school for all North High Students is Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The school day begins at 8:30AM, except on Late Start Tuesdays where school starts at 9:20 AM.                 Back-to-School Night will be on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024.

The Saxon faculty and staff welcome you and consider it an honor to be part of your child’s high school journey that will have a lasting and positive impact on their future. Best wishes to you all for a happy, productive and successful 2024-2025 school year.

Stay Healthy, Stay Safe, Stay Saxon Strong!
